Anthony "Tony" G. Herschitz

Anthony G. “Tony” Herschitz, 72, of New Tripoli, Pa., passed away on May 25, 2015 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Esther M. (Gruber) Herschitz having celebrated their 52nd wedding aniversary  in January 2015. He was born in Allentown, a son of the late Anthony and Marjorie ( Newhard) Herschitz.  He was a self employed general contractor for over 40 years, until retiring in 2002. Tony was a member of Jacobs Church, New Tripoli, where he was also a former sound technician. He was also a 1962 graduate of William Allen High School, Allentown. Over the years he and his wife opened their hearts and home to many foster children through the Topton Lutheran Home and later from Pinebrook Family Services of Allentown. Some of those children included Leroy Guldner, Solimar Centeno, Gail Leiby, Kayla Clark and Tina Lopez along with countless other children. Survivors besides his wife includes three daughters, April Beth Daugherty, Macungie, Faith Marjorie Campbell, Brodheadsville, Rachael Elizabeth Heintzelman, New Tripoli; a son, Anthony Robert Herschitz, New Tripoli; a sister Carolyn Zehner, Kaneohe, HI; two brothers, Dale Zehner, Manassas, VA, Charles Zehner, Fairfield, Pa.; six grandchildren and a great-grandaughter Abby.  He is also survived by his beloved canine companion Lucy.  Tony was predeceased by a brother Robert Zehner.  His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Jacobs Church , 8373 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, Pa. 18066, with a calling hour beginning at 10:00 AM.  Rev. Scott L. Shay will officiate. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made the Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, Pa. 18066, to help offset Tony’s final expenses.
