Robert C. Herman of Wanamakers, known as Butch to his many friends and family, was born on December 17, 1941 in Allentown, PA and transitioned out of this life on April 26, 2026. He was the son of the late Robert L. Herman and Evelyn M. (Gangaway) Barrall. Through his 84-year journey of life he passed on his enjoyment of the outdoors to his children, teaching them to hunt, fish, and camp. He also taught them strong work ethics and provided a family life he never had. Butch’s pride and joy were his children, but there was nothing that filled his heart more than being called Pappap by Patrick, Sarah, Jarrett, Maggie, and Abby.
Butch and his wife, Barbara celebrated 61 years of marriage on June 20, 2025. As with any marriage, not all those years were easy, but they held hands, cared for one another, teased one another, respected one another, and cried, laughed, and loved together.
Butch was a 1959 graduate of William Allen High School and employed by the former Eastern Industries for 38 years. In his younger days he enjoyed playing basketball for Grace UCC in the Church League of Allentown. He was a lifetime social member of Star Hose Company in Emerald, PA and an annual social member of Lynnport Fire Company for over 40 years.
Butch is survived by his wife, Barbara (DeRohn); children Richard K., husband of Michele (Miller) of Reading, PA, Tara A., wife of Michael Hitchens of Coatesville, PA, Troy A., husband of Jennifer (Berg) of Hamburg, PA; grandchildren Patrick R. Herman, Sarah A. Herman, Jarrett T. Herman, Margaret A. Hitchens, Abigail G. Hitchens; sister Donna Barrall Flyte; and nieces and nephews.
Butch was unfortunately preceded in death by a 5-year-old son, Thomas A. Herman. Butch’s parents Robert L. Herman (Louise) and Evelyn Gangaway Barrall (Harold) and his sister Katherine Herman Hoffman have all passed as well.
