Richard A. Kunkel

Richard A. Kunkel, 85, of Pottsville, PA, formerly of Kempton, PA, passed away peacefully at Providence Place in Pottsville on Monday evening, August 12, 2024. He was the husband of the late Mae A. (Schollenberger) Kunkel, who passed away in February 2023.

Born in Danielsville, PA, he was the son of the late William H. and Elva (Knepper) Kunkel. Richard was a Veteran, having served in the US Army from 1961-1963, and later served in the US Army Reserves during the Vietnam Conflict. He later worked for the Exide Corporation in Hamburg for 38 years. Richard was a member of Jacob’s Church in New Tripoli, PA.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings Donald Kunkel, Marion Becker, and Betty Rump.

Richard’s funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11 AM in the Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway New Tripoli, PA. The calling hour will begin at 10 AM. Interment immediately following the funeral in Jacob’s Union Cemetery. Rev. Scott L. Shay will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to Jacob’s Church c/o funeral home address.
