Luella K. “Lu” Dotterer, 89, of Kempton, passed away in March 20, 2015 in the Lutheran Home at Topton, She was predeceased by her husband Melvin T. Dotterer in 1979. She was born in Weisenberg Twsp., a daughter of the lateWalter A. and Edith M. (Smith) George. Lu was a clerk in the Kempton Post Office for almost 14 years, retiring in 1987. Prior to that she was employed as a domestic in the Allentown area during the 1960’s and 1970’s and earlier she worked in the former Burkey Knitting Mill, Hamburg, Pa. She was a faithfull member and active volunteer at the Weisenberg Lutheran Church, New Tripoli since 1945. She was a member of the Kempton Community Center for 49 years until 2001. During most of this time she was responsible for booking the entertainment for the Kempton Fair, most notably her friend, Willy Nelson. Lu helped deliver Meals on Wheels in Berks County for many years. She was also a member of the Kempton Fire Co. and the Virginville Fire Co. She is survived by two daughters, Judith A. wife of Dennis M. Stetzler and Joan E. Dotterer both of Lenhartsville; three grandchildren, Scott and Steve Stetzler and Amy,wife of Jason Wisser and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Logan Wisser. She was predeceased by three sisters, Lillian Werley, Agnes Hausman and Anna Stump, also four brothers Charles Peiffer, Robert Peiffer, Harvey George and Lester George. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wed. March 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Weisenberg Lutheran Church, 7645 Weisenberg Church Road, New Tripoli, Pa. 18066, with calling hours beginning at 9:30 AM. Rev. Raymond J. Hand will officiate. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions, in her memory, are requested to the Wiesenberg Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, sent to the above church address.
