Lester R. Backenstoes, 90, of Germansville, PA, passed away peacefully in his home on September 6, 2023. He was the loving husband of Nancy S. (Stine) Backenstoes, with whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage on August 24, 2023. Born in Grantville, PA, he was a son of the late John B. and Ruth (Paul) Backenstoes.
Lester was a 1952 graduate of Hershey High School in Hershey, PA. He went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army from 1955-57. Lester later worked as a manager for the former Bell Telephone in Allentown, PA for many years. He was a member of Jacob’s Church in New Tripoli, PA, Old Time Plow Boys Club Inc., Mertztown, PA and was a former member of Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Co. in Allentown, PA.
In addition to his devoted wife, Nancy, survivors include his sons, Brent A. (Amy) Backenstoes and David W. (Renee) Backenstoes, both of Germansville, PA; daughters, Karen B. (Edward) Gill of New Cumberland, PA, Sharon B. (Wyatt) Shipwash of Lehighton, PA, and Wanda B. (Christopher) Wyatt of Germansville, PA; seven grandchildren, Kirsten, Calvin, Ashley, Kelsey, Ryan, Logan, and Jessica; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Evelyn, and Lucas; brother, John P. (Frances) Backenstoes of Grantville, PA; sister, Eva Farling of Harrisburg, PA. Lester was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Backenstoes.
