Hermie F. (Hamm) Schappell

Hermie F. (Hamm) Schappell, 100, of Allentown, PA, formerly of New Tripoli, PA, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2023 at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown. She was the widow of Curtis J. Schappell, who passed away in 2000. Born in Stony Run, PA, she was a daughter of the late Llewellyn A. and Lizzie A. (Kunkel) Hamm.

Hermie worked for the former Kempton Sportswear Co. in Lynnville for many years until retiring in 1995. She was the oldest member of Jacob’s Church in New Tripoli, and she was a lifetime member of Hamburg Fire Co. and Lynnport Community Fire Co.

Hermie is survived by her daughters, Judy A. Baer and Cindy A. (Ronald E.) Loch, both of New Tripoli; grandchildren, Kerry, Timothy, and Tarissa; great-grandsons, Damien and LeRoy. Hermie was the last of her siblings. She was predeceased by her sisters, Edith Hamm, Betty Jane Wanamaker, and Arlene Snyder; brothers, Elmer, Lester, Ernest, and Harold Hamm; son-in-law, Carson Baer.

Hermie’s funeral service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway New Tripoli. Calling hour to begin at 1:00 PM. Interment in Jacob’s Union Cemetery, New Tripoli. Rev. Stanley Newton and Rev. Scott Shay will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Lynnport Community Fire Co., sent to the funeral home.
