Esther M (Gruber) Herschitz, 80, of New Tripoli, PA passed away on May 28, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest in Allentown. She was the widow of Anthony “Tony” G. Herschitz. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Gladys (Christman) Gruber. Esther was a graduate of William Allen High School in Allentown. She was a member of Jacob’s Church in New Tripoli, where she sang in the choir for many years.
Esther and her late husband opened their hearts and home to many foster children through the Topton Lutheran Home and later from Pinebrook Family Services of Allentown. Some of those children included LeRoy Guldner, Soilymar Damon, Gail Leiby, and Kayla Clark, along with countless other children. Esther was a huge advocate for her favorite TV series “The Chosen”.
Survivors include her daughters, April B. (Frank) Daugherty of Macungie, Faith M. (Eric) Weis of Brodheadsville, and Rachel E. (Jacob) Roth of Lehighton; son, Anthony R. A. Herschitz of Summit Hill; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters; Margaret Beahn of Bethlehem and Ethel Galgon of Allentown; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Zehner and Pauline Gruber; brothers-in-law, Dale and Charles Zehner. She was predeceased by her siblings, Howard Gruber and Ellen Ezar.
Esther’s funeral service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 11 AM in Jacob’s Church, 8373 Kings Highway, New Tripoli. Calling hour begins at 10 AM. Interment in adjoining cemetery. Rev. Stanley C. Newton and Rev. Scott L. Shay will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to help offset Esther’s final expenses may be sent to Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli.
