Ernest P. Heintzelman

Ernest P. Heintzelman, 79, of Kempton, PA passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on May 20, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest in Allentown, PA. He was the loving husband of Shirley N. (Fritz) Heintzelman, with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage in September of 2022. Born in Eckville, PA, he was a son of the late Norman C. and Amelia C. (Schollenberger) Heintzelman.

Ernest worked at the Pennsylvania Steel Foundry in Hamburg, PA, and Birch Hill Foundry in Shoemakersville, PA for many years. He later became employed with J.C. Hill Tree Farm in Orwigsburg, PA, while following his passion for horticulture and landscaping. Ernest’s greatest love was for his wife. He also loved to grow and care for his flowers and plants. He and his wife spent their lives as partners, working sunrise to sunset, making the world around them a beautiful place. He will be remembered for these traits.

In addition to his devoted wife, Shirley, he is survived by his son, Ricky L. (Lisa) Heintzelman of New Tripoli, PA; grandchildren, Samantha, Makayla, and Morgan Heintzelman; sisters, Ida M. Hoppes of Orwigsburg, PA, Shirley A. Long of Auburn, PA, and Linda M. (Bruce) Bittner of Kempton, PA. He was predeceased by siblings, Mark Heintzelman and Darlene Frey. Ernest’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Nester Funeral Home, Inc., 8405 Kings Highway New Tripoli, PA, with a calling hour to begin at 12:00 PM. Interment in New Bethel Union Cemetery in Kempton, PA. Rev. David Smith will officiate. Memorial contributions in Ernest’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, sent directly to 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
