Denise Follweiler Obituary

Denise L. Follweiler, 58, of Lenhartsville, PA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family members on October 19, 2024, after battling lung cancer for almost two years. She was born March 28, 1966 in Allentown, PA, to the late Edwin Knecht and June (Hunsicker) Knecht of Allentown. Denise was a 1984 graduate of Emmaus High School. She was married in Lenhartsville to Michael P. Follweiler on March 20, 1999.

Denise worked as a lead customer service representative for 25 years for the Lehigh Group, later known as the Jardon Corporation. She then worked for East Penn Manufacturing-Deka as a compensation analyst, where she was well-known for her professionalism and impeccable work ethic. She became a top gun in her department having in-depth knowledge of her job.

Denise truly lived life to the fullest and always put others before herself. When her husband was deployed to Iraq, Denise stepped up and got involved with his unit’s Family Readiness Group and coordinated sandwich and baked goods sales, along with other fundraisers to raise money for his unit. This fund provided the unit with a very heartwarming and welcoming formal family dinner when the Soldiers returned home. She was recognized with high honors for her hard work by the unit’s commander. She had an infectious smile and always had a positive attitude. Denise would always find the sunshine, even on a cloudy day. She always loved spending time with her family and friends and looked forward to family get-togethers. Christmas was always Denise’s favorite holiday. Every decoration she had held a deep meaning for her. She enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Tanner, who she adored deeply. Denise had numerous hobbies and passions including cooking and baking. Her apple pie was the best. She did canning of all sorts of vegetables. Her bread-and-butter pickles were amazing. She enjoyed her hobby of gardening and tending to her flowers. Denise also enjoyed taking life in by sitting still outside and watching the hummingbirds come to the feeders. When Denise first met Mike, he got her involved in the Meitzler Racing Family, where she could be seen every weekend in the grandstands at Grandview Speedway smiling and cheering her loudest. Her favorite vacation was in 2008, when she and Mike went to Arizona to see Sedona and the north rim of the Grand Canyon. She always enjoyed playing basket bingo for Longaberger Baskets. She showed passion in becoming a Norwex sales consultant to promote environmentally friendly cleaning products. She was also an avid reader. She really enjoyed going to Lancaster County with Mike and shopping at all their favorite shops. Denise leaves behind her two favorite pet parrots; Charlie (her favorite), a white-bellied caique, and Gracie her African gray. Her love for Charlie was amazing.

In addition to her loving husband and mother, she is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Brett) Burkey of Hamburg; son, Robert E. Eltz, Jr. of Port Clinton; grandson, Tanner Burkey; granddaughters, Alexa and Brittney Burkey; brothers, Dennis (Krista) Knecht of Lehighton and Mark (Michelle) Knecht of Emmaus; mother-in-law, Eleanor Follweiler of Lenhartsville; brother-in-law, Glenn (Jean) Follweiler of Fogelsville; nieces, Hailey Knecht, Amy Follweiler, Jessie Knecht, Alyssa (Cody) Barker; nephews, Daniel Follweiler, Justin (Brenna) Knecht.
