Andrew M. Kunkel

Andrew M. Kunkel, 41, of Reading, PA, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg in Bethlehem, PA. Andrew made the selfless decision to be an organ and tissue donor through Gift of Life. Born in Reading, PA, Andrew was the beloved son of Richard K. Kunkel, Jr. and Kathleen M. (Schnell) Kunkel of Lenhartsville, PA.

Andrew worked as a data center lab technician for Kaseya U.S., LLC in Breinigsville, PA. He was a 2003 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and went on to earn an associate degree in I.T. Support Specialist from Berks Technical Institute in Wyomissing, PA.

Andrew had a passion for coaching and giving back to his community. In 2021, Andrew coached his daughter’s and son’s soccer teams at Schuylkill Valley before later coaching the U12 boys’ team for Fleetwood Youth Soccer Club. He also spearheaded the formation of the skatepark project at Kutztown Community Skatepark. Andrew was a member of the Sons of the American Legion at Topton, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship of his fellow members.

A devoted sports fan, Andrew proudly supported the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Flyers, and Reading Royals. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, snowboarding, freeboarding, skateboarding, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

In addition to his loving parents, Andrew is survived by his children, Cameron M. Kunkel and Alexa R. Kunkel, both at home; his brother, Kenneth R. (Christine) Kunkel of Kutztown; his companion, Rachelle Brutto of Reading; nephew, Christopher W. Kunkel; and niece, Catherine J. Kunkel. Andrew’s beloved cat, Baxter, was a constant and cherished companion for 16 years. He passed away just one week before Andrew.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, PA, with a calling hour beginning at 10:00 AM. Private interment will take place at New Bethel Church Cemetery in Kempton. Pastor Keith Rohrbach will officiate.
