Alice L. (Bachman) Schroeder

  Alice L. Schroeder, 93, formerly of Kempton, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Kutztown Manor. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Paul H. Schroeder, who died in 1980. 

  Born in Albany Township, Berks County, PA, Alice was a daughter of the late Jacob A. and Ida S. (Zettlemoyer) Bachman. As a child, she attended Heinly’s one room school, graduating from the 8th grade.

  Alice had been employed for many years as a sewing machine operator at Kempton Sportswear, Inc. and after its closing, was employed at the Fernbrook location.  Upon her retirement from the garment industry, Alice was next employed as a cook at Zimmerman’s Country Homestead for several years.

  Alice was a member of New Bethel Church, Kempton.  In her free time, Alice liked to sew, crochet, garden, and spend time with her family and friends.

  Alice is survived by a daughter Sarah A. wife of Robert Burns of Carlisle; a son William H. of Stony Run and his wife Linda M. (Leslie); 4 grandchildren: Randy, Michael, and Katie Schroeder, and Stephanie Burns; one great grandson, Layne Schroeder; nieces and  nephews.  Alice was the last of her siblings, being predeceased by older sister Emma (Bachman) Mease, and her older brother George O. Bachman.

  The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Kutztown Manor for the care they gave to our loved one while she was a resident at the their facility.

  Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, PA. Burial will be private and will be made in New Bethel Church Cemetery, Kempton.  Rev. Robert Billig, Jr. will officiate.

  Memorial contributions can be made in Alice’s name to the New Bethel Church Memorial Fund, 135 New Bethel Church Road, Kempton, PA 1929.
