Marian Bond Obituary

Marian Eliza (Fetherolf) Bond, 96, loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and long-time resident of Kempton, PA., passed away May 29, 2019 at Country Meadows, Wyomissing, PA.  She was the widow of Nevin Alfred Bond, who predeceased her on May 24, 1980. Born September 4, 1922, on the family farm in Jacksonville, PA., she was the daughter, and first born of five children, of the late Edwin H. and Annie G. (Krick) Fetherolf.

Marian and her siblings attended the one-room country schoolhouse near her home and later rode the “Berksy”, a train that transported students from the Kempton area to Slatington to attend school.  She was a graduate of Slatington High School, Class of 1938. It was on the Berksy where she met Nevin, a fellow student and the man who would become her husband.

She and Nevin married in Kempton on Christmas Eve 1942.  Together, in the ensuing years, they raised six children.  Marian was a stay-at-home mom in the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. Being a wife and mother was a full-time job, and her proudest achievement was that of a homemaker and caring for the family.  When the children were older, she worked outside the home for a period of eight years as a sewing machine operator at the former Kempton Sportswear in Lynnville, PA.

Marian was a member of New Bethel Church, Kempton, and the Kempton Red Hat Society, a former member of the Kempton Lioness Club, and for 35 years, she served as a Clerk of Elections for Albany Township.  In her lifetime, she was fortunate to have traveled to many destinations in the states and to other countries.  She loved social outings with friends, family gatherings, and seeing her family grow through the years.

In addition to her children, she was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.  Her greatest gift in life was the unconditional love she had for her whole family.  She gave generously to all of them.  Marian was a beautiful lady and her family rejoices in her long life, which was filled with love for all.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Rosemary, wife of Jay C. Drey of Kutztown; her sons, Jeffrey N. Bond of Kempton, David M. Bond and his wife Deborah (May) of Kempton, Gary E. Bond and his wife Jan (Grater) of Kutztown, Jonathan C. Bond and his wife Kelly (Marquette) of Kempton; and daughter-in-law, Riemke J. (Tigchelaar) Bond of Kempton; grandchildren, Jennifer McKenrick, Julie Kloehn, Joshua Drey, Gregory Drey, Matthew Bond, Christopher Bond, Katie Bond, Andrew Bond, Marissa Pham, Timothy Bond, Emily Fuessle, Laura Werst, Steven Bond, Samuel Bond, and Noel Bond; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas McKenrick, Anna and Ian Kloehn, Andrew, Nathanial, and Abigail Bond, Jesse Bond, Keagan and Skyli Bond, Isadora Pham, Olivia, Eliza, and Carter Bond, Helene and Maeve Fuessle, Nirvana, Wynonna, and Lydia Werst, and Quinn Bond; sister, Dorothy (Fetherolf) Fosbrook of Walnutport; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Marian was predeceased by her oldest son, Brian A. Bond on August 20, 2013; brother, Donald Fetherolf and his wife, Grace; brother Walter Fetherolf and his wife, Ruth; sister, Mae (Fetherolf) and her husband Julian Michels.
