John A. Kunkel, 91, of Kempton, PA. passed away on March 6, 2019 in his home. He was the husband of the late Verna M. (Schaffer) Kunkel, who passed away in 1957. John was born in Albany Township, PA. a son to the late Jacob E. and Gladys (Long) Kunkel. He graduated from Slatington High School before becoming a self-employed farmer and saw mill operator. He was a member of New Bethel Church, Virginville Grange, American Legion- Hamburg, PA., and he was also a lifetime member of Kempton Fire Co. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Survivors include a son, William C. (Donna) Kunkel of Kempton, PA., one grandchild, two step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his son, John J. Kunkel. John’s funeral service was held at the convenience of the family in the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway New Tripoli, PA. 18066. Interment immediately followed the private service in New Bethel Union Cemetery, Kempton, PA. Pastor Althea Albright officiated. The family requests that memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Kempton Fire Company, 2461 Route 143 Kempton PA 19529 AND/OR Kempton Rod and Gun Club, 192 Pine Creek Road Kempton, PA 19529.
