Gordon T. (Tom) Snyder, 87, of Lancaster, PA., formerly of Lehighton, PA., passed into God’s kingdom on July 5, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care in Lancaster, PA. He was the husband of Emma E. (Wertman) Snyder, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born on November 13, 1930 in Andreas, PA., Gordon was the son of the late Guy H. and Margaret U. (Kemmerer) Snyder. He was a 1948 graduate of Lehighton High School and worked in the telephone industry for 33 years. He was certified in fleet management by the Wharton School in Philadelphia and later retired from Contel (Continental Telephone Company) in 1991. Gordon was a charter member of the Mahoning Valley Fire Department, National Association of Fleet Administrators, the Lehigh Consistory Scottish Rite, and was a 60-year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 621, Lehighton PA. Additionally, he served as a Deacon of St. Johns UCC, Mahoning Valley, PA. and an Elder of Derry Presbyterian Church in Hershey, PA. prior to becoming a member of Ben Salem UCC Church, Lehighton, PA. He loved music and played trombone in the Ben Salem Band. Gordon, known to family and friends as Tom, is survived by his loving wife; son, Bruce G. (Melanie) of Lancaster, PA.; daughter, Ann wife of Dr. Mark Pavilack of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Eric and his wife Christina, Hannah, Catherine, Sarah and Jon; great-grandson, Weston David; brothers, Willard A. (Lucille) Snyder of New Tripoli, PA. and Luther D. (Lynn) Snyder of Jim Thorpe, PA.; sisters, Phyllis S. wife of Rev. Wilbur Albright of Macungie, PA. and Grace M. wife of Dale F. Snyder of Walnutport, PA. Gordon was preceded in death by two of his siblings, Hilbert G. Snyder and Marie E. Heim. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Ben Salem UCC Church, 1965 Church Hill Road Lehighton, PA. 18235, with a calling hour beginning at 10:00AM. Lehighton Lodge No. 621 F & AM service at 10:45 AM. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Michael McGowan will officiate.
