George Henry Hamm, 92, of Danville, formerly of Kempton, PA, beloved husband and father, passed from his earthly life into eternal rest with God on October 10. He was the son of the late George D. Hamm and Pauline J. Levan Hamm, of Kempton, PA. He was the husband of the late Gloria E. Longenberger Hamm for 61 years. George graduated from Slatington High School, Slatington, PA in 1943. George was a life-long farmer on his family’s farm near Kempton, working in dairy, field crops, Christmas trees, timber and other farm operations. He was a native Pennsylvania Dutchman, like many residents of Albany Township and the surrounding area. Late in life, George was well known for his contributions to historical works about Albany Township, Berks County, PA and the Kempton area. George was a longtime member and supporter of New Bethel Union Church, Kempton, PA, and later in life, a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, PA. He was also a long-time member of the Kempton Volunteer Fire Company. Survivors include his daughter Gail E. H. (Doil) Myers, of Danville; son Walter B. Hamm and his wife, Janet Spencer of Stafford,VA; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters Rosa Wagaman and Margaret Fenstermacher. A Celebration of his Life will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the New Bethel Church, 135 New Bethel Church Road, Kempton, Pa. 19529, with a visitation period beginning at 10:00 AM. Pastor Ruth Laudermilich will officiate. Interment will take place in the adjoining Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, George’s family suggests that you provide a donation to New Bethel Church, and/or Shiloh United Church of Christ, 500 Bloom Street, Danville, PA 17821.
