George D. Billig, 85, of New Tripoli, Pa. passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Nancy L.(Leiby) Billig, having celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on August1, 2017. He was born in Lynn Township, a son of the late Granville A. and Florence L.(Kocher) Billig. He was a salesman for Nationwide Insurance Inc. for 41 years, retiring in 1997. He was also a school bus driver for the Northwestern Lehigh School District for 32 years retiring in 1997. George was a 1949 Graduate of Slatington High School. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Jerusalem (Red) Church, Kempton, where he served as a former elder and trustee of the cemetery assn. He was also a member of the Lynnport and New Tripoli Fire Companies. He was a life member and formerly very active in the Kempton Community Center. Survivors besides his wife includes a daughter, Nancy J. wife of Steven Lashua, New Tripoli; 3 sons, Timothy L. (Theresa) Billig and Dwight D. (Diana) Billig, both of New Tripoli and Bryan G. Billig, Macungie, Pa.; a brother Russell husband of Margie Billig, New Tripoli; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy Billig and siblings Arthur and Harold Billig. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Jerusalem (Red) Church 15 Red Church Road, Kempton, Pa. 19529 with a viewing from 6-7:30 PM, Sunday, August 13, 2017 in the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, Pa. 18066, with an additional viewing preceeding the funeral beginning at 10:00 AM in the Church. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Robert J. Billig, Jr. will officiate. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory are requested to the Jerusalem (Red) Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, sent to the above church address.
