Esther A. (Snyder) Kunkel

Esther A. (Snyder) Kunkel, 95, formerly of Kempton and New Tripoli died Saturday morning, October 21, 2017 at Cedarbrook - Allentown. Born in Weisenberg Township on October 3, 1922, Esther was the daughter of the late Charles F. & Florence (Christman) Snyder and wife of the late Wayne H. Kunkel for 45 years at the time of his death in 1990.

Her work history included working as a maid to Attorney Fred Gernert and family in Allentown beginning at age 16, working part-time as a telephone operator at the Kutztown Telephone Exchange in Stines Corner and later as a sleeve-setter for Penn Sportswear in Allentown for approximately 10 years until the mid 1950’s when she became a full-time homemaker. Later she worked at area restaurants doing food preparation.

Esther was the oldest member of St. Paul’s U.C.C. – Seiberlingsville, Kempton, PA, where she formerly served on the choir for many years.

She was a member of Blue Ridge Trail Council No. 179 Daughters of America, since November 21, 1944, and a Life Member of Community Fire Company both located in New Tripoli.

She enjoyed being a homemaker, playing the piano, embroidery, playing pinochle, traveling and sharing stories of her life.

Surviving are a daughter Diane E., wife of Fred Folland, Germansville; granddaughters, Amanda (Jake) Ostrusky, Kelly K. (Darryl) Mills, Victoria Kunkel (Tim Foster) and Tracy (Christopher) Hunt and great-grandchildren Tevin, Beth and Karlee.

She was predeceased by sons, Kenneth W. Kunkel in 2013 and Henry C. L. Kunkel in 2014; brother Sterling S. Snyder and infant sister Mildred.

Services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, PA 18066. Call 10 AM until time of service. Pastor Carl E. Siegfried will officiate. Interment will take place in Ebenezer Union Cemetery in New Tripoli.
