Richard L. “Chubby” Matthias, Sr., 81 , of New Tripoli, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest, Allentown, Pa. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Shook) Matthias, having celebrated their 20th wedding aniversary this past February. He was born in Kempton, a son of the late Robert C. and Naomi E. (Bailey) Matthias, Sr. He was employed by Lehigh County, working in the maintenance dept. at Cedarbrook, Allentown, Pa. for 16 years, retiring in 1997. He later worked for the Lynn Twsp., Parks and Recreation Dept. as well as the Sewer Dept. . He also worked briefly at the Lynn Township Transfer Station. He was currently employed as a custodian for the Union Cemetery, Slatington. Richard was a member of the New Tripoli Fire Co., and the Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club, New Tripoli, where he assisted with the fish hatchery program. Survivors besides his wife includes four daughters, Debra A. (Lester) Koch, Dianne R. Matthias and her husband Alex Rodriguez, both of Catasaqua, June L. (John) Tatkovsky, New Tripoli, and Joanne M.Wodecki of Lee, Mass.; a son Richard L. Matthias, Jr. and a step-daughter Krystal (Henry) White, all at home; a brother Lester C. Matthias of Wescosville; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by daughters Donna L. and Natalie A. Matthias and brothers, Russell and Robert C. Matthias, Jr.. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, Pa. 18066 , with calling hour beginning at 10:00 AM. Rev. Dr. David Charles Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Jacobs Union Cemetery, New Tripoli, Pa. In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital and/or the New Tripoli Fire Co. sent to the above Funeral Home address.
