Gloria Longenberger Hamm,85, of Danville, formerly of Kempton, Pa., beloved wife, mother, nurse and dedicated community servant, passed from her earthly life into eternal rest with God on January 29. She was the daughter of the late H. Curtis Longenberger of Berwick, PA and Lottie Cragle Longenberger of Pond Hill, PA. She was the wife if George H. Hamm for 61 years. Gloria graduated from Berwick High School, Berwick, PA as class valedictorian, and Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, as a Registered Nurse and class valedictorian. She provided nursing care in several Pennsylvania Hospitals, cared for the less-fortunate as a public health nurse, and gave medical assistance to friends and neighbors throughout her lifetime. While in Kempton, Gloria was a dedicated farm wife, working every day in the fields, in the barn and house, yet finding time to contribute her time and resources to multiple charities. She was the former President of the Reading Hospital Auxiliary Association, a regular volunteer assistant at the Hamburg State Center and a long-time Sunday School teacher. Gloria was a longtime member and supporter of New Bethel Union Church, Kempton, PA., and later in life, a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, PA. Her favorite hobbies included needlework, quilting, knitting, jigsaw puzzles, reading and wild berry hunting, for which she was renowned in the community as a purveyor of wild-strawberry jam.
Survivors includes a daughter Gail E. H. (Doil) Myers, of Danville; son Walter B. Hamm and his wife, Janet Spencer of Stafford,VA. her sister Lois L. Bortz, of Elgin, S. Carolina; daughter Gail E. H. (Doil) Myers, of Danville; sister-in-law Sally S. Longenberger, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Drue R. Longenberger and infant sister Joan M. Longenberger.
Her Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the New Bethel Church, 135 New Bethel Church Road, Kempton, Pa. 19529, with a visitation period beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in the adjoining Cemetery.
