CHARLES LINDBERGH PERSON, 88, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016 in Newark, Delaware with his daughter, Martha at his side.  Born in Walnutport, Pennsylvania on June 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Albert and Alverta (Seip) Person and brother to Doris Weaver (late Paul), of Walnutport, Pa.  After graduating from Slatington High School, where he was a lineman on the football team, in 1945, Charlie (“Possum”) served in the U.S. Army as part of the Corps of Engineers in Germany, during World War II.  He worked on the Levan family farm in Albany Township, construction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, at Mack Trucks in Allentown and for American Airlines, TWA and Pan Am at the Philadelphia Airport before retiring from Associated Air Freight, Philadelphia in 1993.

Throughout his life he spent a great deal of time in Albany Township and Lehigh County with family and friends, which he considered his real home. Patriotic and proud of his Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, he was fluent in the dialect.  Charlie was an avid football/sports fan who enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a loyal member of the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16 in Slatington for over 70 continual years. Charlie was an extremely strong person who taught us much and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Charlie is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Mary J. (nee Levan). He is survived by his children:  Martha Miller and son-in-law, William of Newark, Delaware, Joseph and daughter-in-law, Claudia of Burlington, CT, Alice Meyer (late William) of Riverside, California, Sally Harned and son-in-law, Jeffrey of Cape May Court House, New Jersey, and Laurel Person Mecca and son-in-law, Michael of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Surviving in addition to his children are eight grandchildren: Jenna Grodzicki (Shawn), Marla Veilleux (Kristopher), Gregory Person, John, Louis and Stephen Harned, and Phoebe and Evan Mecca; and two great-grandchildren: Tessa and Tanner Grodzicki. Charlie is also survived by his nieces Carol Weaver and her husband, Ray Bartholomew and Janet Shankweiler (late Rick), his grandnieces Jessica Marrone (John), Lauren Scanlon (Jaimie), and Katherine Rex and his great grandniece Stella Scanlon.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 11: 00 AM, in New Bethel Church, 135 New Bethel Church Road, Kempton, PA, 19529, with a calling period beginning at 10am with Rev. James W. Le Van and Chaplain Mark Koczak officiating. Interment in adjoining New Bethel Cemetery on the family plot.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory would be appreciated and may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105 or St. Joseph’s Indian School, P.O.
